Big Screen plans draw TV cameras
A NATIONAL camera crew rolled in to Leven last week to film the latest stage of work in the town's ambitious Regent cinema project.
The former Gala Bingo Hall on Commercial Road is currently being transformed into a film venue for the whole area by the Leven Community Cinema Group.
Talking about STV's visit, Frank Walker, chairman of the group, said: "It's obviously very exciting as it's a big thing for Leven.
"It shows the community is helping each other and working together.
"I'd like to thank everyone in the group for all their time and hard effort to turn the site around as well as some of the local businesses and the Criminal Justice Youth Service which has been helping to clear out all the old chairs."
Levenmouth MSP Tricia Marwick who was interviewed by the TV crew last Thursday, explained: "What's happening here in Leven is fantastic, and it adds support and recognition for the whole of Scotland.
"There is an amazing amount of work done by the volunteers and they are helping to put Leven on the map."
Archie Melville, senior project manager for the Criminal Justice Youth Service, expressed his support for the project.
He said: "I contacted Frank Walker and offered our services as it's a way of paying something back to the community.
"This way, the community can see a tangible difference. And it's good for our offenders to give something back to the area rather than being in prison."
Having been given a £20,000 grant by Fife Council on January 27 to help with lease costs, it is hoped that the remaining work will be completed in time for the cinema's planned opening in early March.
