"East Fife Crusoe" Gala Premiere
Another gala film occasion will be lighting up Leven next week.
The Regent Cinema is hosting the premiere on December 3 of "East Fife Crusoe", the film shot in Levenmouth earlier this year which presents a fresh take on one of the most famous literary characters of all time.
Key cast members and production personnel are being invited to attend, while the event will be on a similar scale to that of the cinema's grand official opening in March.
"East Fife Crusoe" was made by community broadcaster Channel Fife TV, assisted by Celebrating Fife.
Farooqi Muskwati, a South-African born performer living in Leven, who also wrote the screenplay, stars as a photographer washed ashore when his ship encounters difficulty.
He learns about Robinson Crusoe from locals and finds strange parallels between his life and that of Defoe's literary creation.
Community Cinema Group chairman Frank Walker said "We're very pleased that a local film, based in the Levenmouth area, is going to premiere at The Regent," he said. "It's really the only place it could premiere to be honest, with the Robinson Crusoe connection in Largo and the cinema in Leven."
Graeme Campbell of Channel Fife, who directed the film, said: "To get a cinema screening is fantastic."
Mr Walker also confirmed the Regent now had charitable status, while the lease of its premises, which was due to expire at the end of this year, had been ex-tended for another seven months.
The Regent has also clinched the first-run of another blockbuster, part one of "Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows", which is currently showing.
